Minister of Culture and Tourism Gajendra Singh Shekhawat said on Monday that the past 12 years under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership have been significant for the country’s development and overall growth, highlighting that the end of Naxalism during the period is one of the crucial achievements.

At the launch of BJP leader and author Tuhin A. Sinha’s book Naxal Terror Vanquished on Monday, Shekhawat stated that during the past twelve years, PM Modi and his regime have been able to reinstate people’s trust back in the system.

Addressing the gathering, he said the end of Naxalism has brought relief to people across all the districts that had been directly or indirectly affected by the Naxal terror in one way or the other, and now they have been brought out of the darkness.
He said that the book tells the entire story as to how all this happened and how people were in those areas now.

Shekhawat shared that during the recently-concluded elections in West Bengal, he worked in the Naxalbari region from where the issue had started back in the day, a place considered full of danger years ago, but in the present times with the reforms and the work done, things have changed and the BJP candidate won from Matigara in the area won election with a huge margin.

“Tuhin has not just written a book, he has given the entire context as to how the issue began and grew and then how the nation faced it as a challenge and ultimately brought to an end,” he said.

It was important for a person to understand such people who create such narratives against the nation, and then to dismiss such mindset, he contended.
Speaking on the occasion, Tuhin A.Sinha said it is the political will that really matters to understand such problems and then to take the right steps towards resolving such issues. “When on 31 March 2026 India was declared Naxalism Free, the book narrates that entire journey how it happened,” he added.

“PM Modi and HM Amit Shah’s political willpower plays decisive role in bringing a change in the country’s situation, “ he said.
He hit out at the previous UPA regime for defining Naxalism as a socio-economic issue despite knowing its impact.

Speaking further, he said back in day in 2010 over 1000 people died in left wing extremism.
Sinha said it could have been born as a socio-economic problem back in 1960’s, but in 2004, there was a big change and with coming up of CPI (Maoist), things had gone extreme, when a red corridor was marked.

He said now, the Naxal terror has ended with the end of militant Naxalism, but the urban Naxal mindset still exists, and the fight against this mindset shall continue, he added.
